Flapjack is a marketing concept from grower Willemsen-Weijs Pot plants, growing kalanchoe thyrsiflora. Characteristic for Flapjack is the intense colour of its leaf. Because the grower partly grows the kalanchoe outside, the sun gives the plant a beautiful, intense red leaf and the plant its strong quality.

Features Flapjack
Characteristic of the Flapjack concept is:
  • The bright green leaf colour in combination with the intense red leaf
  • The strong quality of the plant
  • Flapjack is packed in durable cardboard trays, possibly with paper wrapper
  • The concept is available in pot sizes 8.5, 10.5, 13 and 15 cm dish
Growing process
A seed needs 9 months to 1 year to grow into an adult plant. After the growth phase on the seed trays, the plants are repotted into a cultivation pot. Just the same as at the consumer's home, the plant receives as little water as possible during the cultivation process. When the kalanchoes are big enough, they are moved outside. Here the sun colours the leaf edges a colourful red and where the plant are hardened off. This makes the Flapjack of optimum quality for the consumer.

About the grower
Willemsen-Weijs Pot plants is a family run business that has existed for more than 70 years. The current Directors of this fine company are René Willemsen and Sietske Weijs, who are cousins. Besides the Flapjack they also grow pachypodium, calceolaria and echeveria. Every phase of the cultivation they carry out themselves: from sowing to harvesting. This makes them flexible in the production process and they can respond well to the wishes of the customer.
